Where do I start - Well first Verity was written by Colleen Hoover. I think a lot of book worms already know that. Fair warning I will try to keep this review spoiler free, however I’m not sure that is possible. Let's get into it.
The first 5 chapters were very choppy. Short sentences, short thoughts. I mean the first sentence of the book was disturbing at best. Seriously this book should come with a trigger warning. All in all it is a good story line- However - it is creepy, not the best written, and a lot of Icks. Verity comes off as a very disturbed character. Her family has gone through so much tragedy that when Lowen reads her Manuscript autobiography she is shocked to realize that it may have been at the hand of Verity.
Jeremy comes off as a good guy that would do anything for his kids. He ends up heartbroken when His twins die and his wife is left defenseless and unable to move, or speak. He seems genuine about wanting to be the best husband and father, until Lowen enters his life. His attention starts to drag to her more and more. The more you get in the book, the more it feels as if he is grooming Lowen to take Verity’s place as wife, mother, author. I mean they met after a tragedy, followed by him lying to her. The only person I think Jeremy really cares about is Crew.
Lowen, this poor woman has been through some bad times. The worst would be how her and Jeremy met. After she witnessed a tragedy, a tragedy that would cause PTSD for anyone. However, I feel like the author tried to make her childhood a little more tragic. Almost like what she experienced was more horrendous than what had actually happened. In my opinion what she witnessed was worse than what she described as her childhood. Her life was about to get way more creepy and upsetting than that.
Lowen suspicions grew more and more throughout the novel. I'm surprised Jeremy didn't catch on quicker. However given the end of the novel, I can see why he shoved it off to the side. When it all comes to ahead, little things catch my eye like - “where did you find this”. Obviously he has seen it before. Lowen’s love for Jeremy is disgusting and blinding. Only more tragedy can come from their love.
Overall I gave this book 3 stars. I was intrigued by the story, which ultimately allowed me to finish it.
